- 3/4 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/3 cup shortening or butter
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
Directions
- In a large bowl combine the dry ingredients
- Cut the shortening in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs
- Stir in the buttermilk until just moistened
- Turn onto a lightly floured surface
- Roll into 1/2 inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter
- Place 1 inch apart on an ungreased baking sheet
- Bake at 450F for 8-10 minutes (or until golden brown)
Notes
- Buttermilk substitution
- You can also substitute regular milk for buttermilk if you don't have any
- For each cup of buttermilk, you can use 1 tablespoon of white vinegar or lemon juice plus enough milk to measure 1 cup.
