Sour Cream Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 4 oz melted unsweetened chocolate (cool)

Directions

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees
  2. Grease and flour a 13x9x2" oblong pan OR 2 9" round pans
  3. Measure all ingredients into a large mixing bowl and mix for 2 minutes at low speed, scraping the bowl consistantly
  4. Continue to beat for 3 minutes on high while scraping the bowl
  5. Pour into pan
  6. Bake: 40-45 minutes (oblong pan) / 30-35 minutes (round pans) until the top springs back when touched lightly with a finger (Or, when the shine is gone test with a toothpick).
  7. Cool

Goes best with Chocolate Sour Cream Frosting
